Anxiety is the theme for Mental Health Awareness Week this year. Focusing on anxiety will increase awareness and understanding. The Mental Health Foundation conducted a study amongst 6000 adults and found that nearly three-quarters had felt anxious in the previous fortnight; with one in five saying they felt anxious most or all of the time. We know that many of our students feel anxious; it’s one of the reasons they come to spend a term attending art as therapy sessions with us. And we know anxiety is increasing in young people. This from the Local Government website:
Emotional disorders, particularly anxiety and depression, are on the rise. We are aware of the negative impact of social media on young people’s emotional health and the long term impact of the pandemic, inability to access school and stress that young people have experienced over the past two years.
Our work is dedicated to supporting children and young people in school; helping them to cope with challenges and offering a safe, calm space where they can be released from the anxiety they feel.
